"6-year-old NYC public school student grabbed by ICE with mother deported to Ecuador"

Deportation hits close to home--we could walk to this kid's elementary school. 😥 See New York Daily News article by this name^. Blogger.com, also known as blogspot.com, won't let me post a link, which is not exactly a surprise.:( Aug. 20, 2025 update: I posted the URL to this article in the first comment.

Kiriyah Yefefiyah קריה יפהפיה | Kedmah: The Rising Song Piyyut Project [video]

Back in the good old days before I become too much of a dizzy dame to get out on the dance floor safely, I used to dance to this Yemenite piyyut (liturgical poem). Yes, Israeli folk dance choreographers will choreograph *anything*--a piyyut, another prayer, a psalm, another quote from the Tanach/Bible--and make it look beautiful.

It was nice while it lasted

I published my first blog post here on Monday, August 02, 2004, twenty-one years ago almost to the day. I regret to inform you that this may be my last non-video post. I'm not quitting voluntarily--I'm quitting because I've been "ghosted" by Google, the current owner of this site, variously known as Blogger.com and/or Blogspot.com. First, it became impossible for me to post my photos. Then, I noticed that some of my older posts were no longer visible--I'm sure of that because I've kept Word archives of all my posts, complete with URL, so I have proof that I published them. But what's happened since roughly last fall has made blogging here no longer an option. Last fall, my "search" window disappeared--I can no longer recommend that my readers do a search for previous posts on the same subject. (I forgot to mention that I had long since lost the ability to apply "Labels," to my posts--readers used to be able to click on a label and see all related posts in one long, scrollable window. Removing the search window, too, made my blog completely unsearchable.) Then, just a few months ago, I noticed that, no matter how many times I pressed the "Enter" key in the "Compose" window, I could not get my posts to show breaks between paragraphs. (See just about every post that I'm published since March 2025.) Apparently, I'm now expected to use HTML to "code" my own posts. My husband suggested, probably correctly, that Google considers blogs a "legacy" form of social media, and is barely maintaining blogs as a courtesy. The lack of technical support has made publishing posts here more trouble than it's worth. So I'll publish the occasional video, in the hope that Google won't consider this blog abandoned and delete the whole thing. But I'll be posting on Facebook from now on--look for me under Shira Salamone. Thank you for reading my blog. All the best.
